Workshops by Bloom

One of our signature programs include our interactive and educational workshops which have been developed by our team of passionate and knowledgeable Recreation Therapists at Bloom Therapeutic Recreation and Fitness Inc. They have been developed with the goal of educating individuals about specific leisure options, broaden their knowledge about specific health & wellness topics or coping strategies and to offer resources to continue their leisure planning experience independently.

 

Below are some of the current workshops that are available at this time, although our experienced team are always happy to develop new ideas or customize existing ones to fit the needs of your organization.

The workshop is facilitated as a safe-space, virtual discussion with evidence-based information where you will have the chance to experience some of the tools first-hand! The Mental Health and Wellness workshop will help individuals who may be going through challenging times. Participants will benefit from the interactive workshop with a short movement break, engaging resources, and free handouts.

This workshop is designed to help participants understand the importance of leisure and physical activity on your mental health.

Staying active as a family is a great way to provide opportunities for bonding and new leisure experiences, while also improving and maintaining physical health. This workshop is accompanied by a guide to inspire you to lead a healthy lifestyle as a family. The guide includes the Canadian Guidelines for physical activity across age groups, as well as low or no cost activities to do as a family both indoors and outdoors.

This workshop explores a variety of resources that will help you plan for wellness in your everyday schedule for an optimal quality of life.

This workshop is designed for those who may be curious about the therapeutic benefits of journaling, as well as those who have started journaling but need further ideas for exploration. The workshop will be interactive, with opportunities to reflect and write independently with an option to share work for those who would like to. The workbook provided will give you inspiration, ideas, and further guide your journaling practice. 

Creative Journaling

Creative Journaling

Learn about the therapeutic benefits of journaling, creative writing strategies, and participate in writing exercises to promote self-discovery, reflection, and gratitude.

Setting goals helps form new behaviors and gives focus, direction, and momentum to your life. Some examples of topics discussed will be extrinsic vs. intrinsic motivation and how it relates to achieving goals, setting realistic goals using the SMART method, how goals can be achieved through recreation and leisure, and more. Participate in this workshop to learn different methods that help you be successful at setting and achieving your personal goals!

They are fun to create and can serve as an invaluable tool to motivate and inspire you towards concrete daily action in pursuit of your biggest and most important life goals. In an interactive and welcoming setting, we will discuss barriers to leisure including awareness, accessibility, internal barriers, cost, and facilities.

We will discuss barriers to accessing physical leisure activities and how to overcome those. There will be a chair yoga component where we educate participants on how to engage in chair yoga independently. Furthermore, this workshop includes a fun movement break involving an adapted and seated version of the “Cha Cha Slide”!
